Alhawa

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.

Katherine Henrici

has been from earliest childhood on a horse lover and, in particular, enchanted by the "true" desert arabian. Ever since she saw as a child the pictures of Mahroussa and of Jasir in a book by Carl R. Raswan, she has dreamt of owning such a beautiful horse one day. At that time she didn't know yet that the ownership works the other way round!  As a mathematician, she loves logical puzzles and numbers. Next to spending time with horses and to riding, reading pedigrees and looking at the corresponding photos is one of her passions.

The arab word "Al hawa" means in English the wind. The bedouins used to call their stallions "drinkers of the wind" and their mares "daughters of the wind". Since in the "Franches-Montagnes" where alhawa is situated, the days without wind are rare, it was not very far-fetched to choose "al hawa" as the name of our stud. Our aims in breeding arabians were from the beginning on clear to us. We wish to preserve the original, pure bred desert arabian, with all of his fabulous qualities. It is a matter of course that we take into account all the usual criteria of horse breeding too, like health, general conformation and gaits. The egyptian arabian is versatile, tough and has a lot of stamina. In addition he is sensitive, intelligent and has "heart", all of which are qualities riders appreciate very much. We are happy when we win new friends and lovers of this very small sub group of the pure bred arabians.

Pierre-André Lehmann

Has been since his earliest childhood a great friend of animals and nature. As a young boy he loved to spend his vacations with his grand-father in a chalet in the mountains, with cows and horses in close proximity. As an engineer he is used to finding solutions to all sorts of problems. He loves to take care of the farm chores in compensation to his demanding job. By preference he spends his free time with his lovely mare Khemala, his favourite. Pierre-André shares with Katherine the passion for the original desert arabian.
